Project Quick Facts

About UNG J-403 Military Leadership Center Expansion:

The new building is comprised of a two-story freestanding structure adjacent to the existing Military Leadership Center Building. At approximately 22,500 square-feet, this facility will have an academic focus with classrooms, computer labs, and office space. It will include a large assembly space/classroom that will accommodate 100 cadets and will be designed with flexibility to accommodate events and auditorium style presentations. Upscale Classroom 218 is intended for four (4) types of use. Typical use includes a seminar layout with 112 seats. Secondary use includes a banquet layout of 128 seats. Future use includes installing a folding partition to divide the room into two classrooms with seminar seating to hold 56 seats per room. The use layout with the largest occupant load is for auditorium seating for event speakers and accommodates 304 seats. The structure is constructed of concrete, masonry, cold-formed metal framing, and structural steel. Geo-Hydro performed construction materials testing, special inspections, and NPDES Compliance inspections for the project.

Complexity Highlight: The concrete placed at one pilaster location resulted in a compressive strength that did not meet the project requirements. The structural steel column had already been set at the pilaster location. Geo-Hydro was able to quickly relay this information to the design team in an effort to minimize any delay with the construction progress. It was determined that no remediation of the pilaster was required resulting in no construction delays to the schedule.
