Friendly Center MOB

Project Quick Facts

About Friendly Center MOB:

Geo-Hydro Engineers, Inc. provided construction materials testing and inspection services for the medical office building project located at 3120 Northline Avenue within the Friendly Center development in Greensboro, North Carolina. The project consisted of partial demolition of an existing single- story masonry structure and parking lot, and construction of a new approximately 21,000-square-foot single-story building shell with associated parking and driveways.

Services performed included field density testing of at-grade areas and structural fill, proofrolling observations, and laboratory testing of proposed fill and backfill soils to determine maximum dry density. Foundation bearing surface evaluations were conducted using hand auger borings and dynamic cone penetrometer testing at select shallow foundation locations, and remedial recommendations were provided for any unsuitable bearing soils.

Observation and verification of reinforcing steel installation was performed for compliance with project documents and approved structural and shop drawings. Structurally significant concrete was sampled and tested for slump, air content, temperature, and compressive strength, with cylinders transported to the laboratory for moist curing and testing. Masonry construction was observed, including placement of reinforcing steel, grouting, and testing of grout specimens. Structural steel connections were inspected and tested in accordance with project specifications, and EIFS installation was observed for compliance with manufacturer recommendations and project documents. Pavement subgrades and aggregate base courses were evaluated for thickness and density, asphalt placement was observed, and cores were taken to verify asphalt course thickness and density. Project administration services included data review, reporting, preparation of correspondence, and coordination with project personnel as needed.
