Construction materials testing and special inspection services were provided for the Axial Liberty Commerce Warehouse located at 7915 Triad Center Drive in Greensboro, North Carolina. The project consisted of the construction of an approximately 174,000-square-foot warehouse facility with tilt-up concrete wall panels, structural steel framing and roof decking, conventional shallow foundations, and a concrete slab-on-grade floor. Site improvements included access drives, loading dock apron, stormwater management facilities, and parking areas. Special inspections were anticipated and performed in accordance with applicable codes and project specifications.
Scope of work included proofrolling of building pads, laboratory Proctor testing of fill materials, and field density testing of backfill soils for utility installation. Foundation bearing surface evaluations were performed for shallow foundations using hand auger and dynamic cone penetrometer testing. Special inspections included observation of reinforcing steel prior to concrete placement, sampling and testing of structural concrete (slump, air content, temperature, and compressive strength cylinders), inspection and testing of structural steel welded and bolted connections, and floor flatness and levelness testing using an electronic floor profiler as required. Pavement testing and observation of aggregate base and asphalt placement were performed as requested to verify compliance with project requirements.
